The first stage of management of ILDs of known aetiology is prevention and cessation of exposure. Current therapy for ILDs of unkown aetiology consists mainly of antifibrotic and anti-inflammatory drugs and there has been an intensive search for active products in the past decade. For advanced ILD, oxygen and rehabilitation may be required, and lung transplantation may need to be considered in the later stages.
